Probably Stolen endings come in two kinds: the one win, buying the store from your landlord, and the several ways a run can be lost. The developer has published only the win and a few loss conditions, and Steam tags such as Multiple Endings do not come with a list, so this page gathers every ending the official notes and launch-week guides name, with the source for each. For the buyout itself, read how to buy the shop in Probably Stolen.
The winning ending in Probably Stolen
The 1.0 post describes the ending as buying the store from the landlord and becoming its rightful owner. You then get "the stats": your most profitable sale, days survived, total worth, the perks you earned and more. The Steam achievements mark it: Keys to the Kingdom for owning the deed (3.0% of players at launch) and Prodigious for owning it before day 50 (1.2%); see Probably Stolen achievements.
Players disagree about what follows. One forum poster says buying out the store is game over and that you can restart with a different build; another says the game ends abruptly after the buyout. A third says the buyout unlocks more content and events, and a fourth says Endless mode exists for players who want to keep going. These are player reports, and hotfix 1.0.0.5 only confirms that the Merchant keeps visiting every Sunday after you buy the store. A player also reports that a loan shark loan blocks the buyout until its weekly payments have passed, which is unconfirmed.
Losing endings: rent, Augs, Security and the cartel
A losing run gets a stats screen too, which the developer calls a little sadder. The sources name these ways to lose:
- Rent: falling behind hurts the store, and one player on the highest difficulty reports running short of rent and ending up homeless after seven hours of play.
- The Augmented ending: missing too many Augs. Since the August playtest patch 48.3.10 you can only lose this way on Hard Mode, and patch 48.3.12 fixed a bug where shooting an Aug on Hard Mode still moved the game-over meter. Details are on Probably Stolen augs.
- Security: the Chemist guide says an arrest or an execution ends the run, as does a fine you cannot pay. An officer's sentence is fixed when he arrives, per Update 049. Probably Stolen contraband explains case value.
- The cartel: on the Chemist start, falling to -100 cartel reputation ends the run, as described on Probably Stolen Chemist.
The 1.0 post makes the same point in the same breath: the losing stats are "a little more sad but still useful", and you should not play with the Sentinel Collapse Disorder option on your first run. It does not say what that option does.
More Probably Stolen endings are planned
The post-launch plan lists a main storyline expansion that will affect both the station and the ending. Some players already ask for alternate end states, such as a spaceship, a revolution or a rat-king finish, but those are forum suggestions, not announcements. Track what ships in Probably Stolen patch notes, and see Probably Stolen characters for the storylines that 1.0 already finished.
Probably Stolen Endings FAQ
How many endings does Probably Stolen have?
No source lists a number. The named ones are the buyout win, a loss by rent or Security, the Augmented loss on Hard Mode, and the cartel loss on the Chemist start.
What happens when you buy the store?
The game shows the stats screen with your most profitable sale, days survived, total worth and perks. The Merchant still visits on Sundays afterwards.
Can you lose to Augs?
Yes, but only on Hard Mode since patch 48.3.10, according to the developer's playtest notes.
Is there an ending beyond buying the shop?
Not yet. A main storyline expansion is planned, and the developer says it will affect how your story ends.
