The Probably Stolen demo is gone: the free Steam demo was retired when the full game launched on October 28, 2026, so you can no longer download it. Players on the Steam forum were asking on launch day where it went. This page covers what the demo had, what happens to demo saves and mods, and what the full game adds.

Probably Stolen demo: is it still available?

No. The developer's launch post says the demo was retired with 1.0, and an earlier post confirmed the same. The full game costs US$19.99; see the Probably Stolen release date page for the launch discount and regional prices. There is no announced plan to bring the demo back.

What the demo included

The demo came out of the open playtest that began on August 3, 2026. A new demo build went live on September 14, 2026 with the release date announcement, in a patch note titled Update 049. It added:

  • an early-game machine and item, plus two challenge starting perks;
  • equip mode and the Toolbox for binding tools to number keys;
  • upgrades to the bottle printer and the vacuum robot;
  • multi-select, sorting, and a Discover button on the load screen for save files you add by hand;
  • economy and security tweaks, and saves that survive a crash.

The Water Merchant scenario was added for that build; the Water Merchant scenario is still in the full game. On October 19, 2026 a further demo update added a retired aquafarmer who sells fish-tank gear. That idea grew into the Aquafarmer scenario in 1.0.

One player on the Steam forum says the demo offered two difficulty levels, Normal and Hard. The full game has four.

Demo saves and the full game

Demo saves are compatible with the full game, so they carry over. The developer still strongly recommends starting a new game. Their reasons are to avoid bugs and to see the new storylines, which a demo save may miss. If you do keep an old save, the Discover button from the September build helps you load save files you copied in manually.

Demo mods are a different story. The developer says mods built for the demo will probably not work in 1.0. The full game ships with Workshop support and a modding API, so check the Probably Stolen mods guide for current mods instead of reusing old files.

What 1.0 adds over the demo

The launch post lists these additions:

  • nine starting scenarios; browse the Probably Stolen starting scenarios to see them;
  • four difficulty options, from beginner-friendly to a very hard mode;
  • finished storylines for characters such as Lou, Eleanor, Officer Lun, Cadet Serpico and the Butcher;
  • a buyout ending with a stats screen, tied to how to buy the shop in Probably Stolen;
  • Steam Workshop and the modding API, vending machines, new starting perks, a UI overhaul, 21 achievements and full localization.

The achievements are listed on the Probably Stolen achievements page. If you want a first-run plan, start with the Probably Stolen tips and tricks.

Probably Stolen Demo FAQ

Can I still download the Probably Stolen demo on Steam?

No. The demo was removed from Steam when 1.0 launched on October 28, 2026. Only the full game is on sale now.

Do Probably Stolen demo saves work in the full game?

Yes, demo saves are compatible with 1.0, but the developer recommends a new game so you avoid bugs and see the new storylines.

Is the demo different from the full game?

Yes. The full game adds nine scenarios, four difficulty options, finished character storylines, a buyout ending and Workshop mod support. The demo had fewer scenarios and, according to a forum player, two difficulty levels.

Will demo mods work in 1.0?

Probably not. The developer says mods made for the demo will most likely not work with the full game, and Workshop mods built for 1.0 are the safer route.
